Kids are fascinated by animals, birds, insects and fish. For a fun family outing with lots of surprises and exciting encounters with friends of all descriptions, Québec has plenty to offer, including zoos, farms and animal parks.

It’s always a thrill to get a close-up look at big animals. Many of our animal parks allow you to do just that. The famed Granby Zoo is also worth a visit: recent renovations include new colours for the animals’ enclosures, inspired by their natural habitats. Take the glass tunnels in the lion enclosure, and the Safari Drive-Thru at Parc Safari. Another option is the Zoo sauvage de Saint-Félicien, where the visitors are the ones behind bars: a wire-screened train takes explorers into the thick of the woods!

Forest animals aren’t left out of the mix. Parc Oméga, located in the Outaouais region, has a 10- kilometre (6-mile) road you can drive along, watching a variety of species in their natural habitat from the comfort of your car. In the Abitibi-Témiscamingue region, drop by Refuge Pageau, where you’ll meet people who have a very special relationship with the animals they rescue and take care of.
During your stay in Québec City, visit the Parc Aquarium du Québec, which houses almost 10,000 specimens from ecosystems of the St. Lawrence River—along with polar bears, seals, and Atlantic and Pacific walruses. The Biodôme de Montréal is a veritable natural oasis in the urban jungle! Visitors can explore four ecosystems with four very different climates. Whether it’s in a tropical jungle or on a frigid Arctic shoreline, an immense variety of fish, birds, animals and plants have made themselves right at home!
